India has initiated consultations with the US under the WTO’s safeguard agreement due to American tariffs on steel and aluminium. The US imposed tariffs in 2018 and revised them in February, effective from March 12, 2025. India argues these are safeguard measures, not security measures, and that the US failed to notify the WTO Committee on Safeguards.
