Inland Waterways Authority bolsters ops at Pandu and Dhubri Ports; aims to export 3 mn MT from Assam by 2025

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has strengthened its operations and management at the Pandu and Dhubri ports in order to boost cargo export from Assam and the Northeast to Bangladesh and South Asia. The aim is to increase cargo movement from 0.5 million MT to 3 million MT of exports from the region.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the roadshow for the Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 (GMIS) in Guwahati. Sonowal highlighted the significant investment made by the government in the inland waterways sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Apeejay Shipping Ltd (ASL) on Friday announced the acquisition of a Japanese-built vessel with a deadweight capacity of 76,812 MT. The vessel adds significant strength to the Kolkata-based company’s fleet, now totalling 10 vessels and boasting of a combined deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 671,332 MT.
