According to data from the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, India is the third-largest provider of seafarers worldwide, following China and the Philippines. Indian seafarers constitute nearly 10% of the global maritime workforce.

This is the second port divestment in recent months by the construction and infrastructural conglomerate, following the earlier sale of Dharamtar Port to JSW Infrastructure Ltd. for an enterprise value of Rs 710 crore, the company said in a statement.

Adani Ports strengthens its dominance with the acquisition of Gopalpur Port, projecting significant growth in cargo handling and revenue. The company’s strategic expansion along the Indian coast and international ambitions position it to rival China’s maritime presence in the region.

Adani Ports will purchase a 56% stake in Gopalpur Port from real-estate conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Group (SP Group) and a 39% stake from Orissa Stevedores.

From the construction of slipways at strategic locations such as Maya Ghat in Dhubri district and Majuli district to the establishment of passenger terminals at Ghagor in North Lakhimpur district and Bahari in Barpeta district, each proposal is meticulously designed to enhance connectivity and facilitate seamless transportation across the region.
