GRSE begins building 13 all-weather hybrid ferries for Kolkata’s Hooghly route

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has commenced construction of 13 hybrid ferries for West Bengal, set to revolutionize Kolkata’s river transport. These eco-friendly vessels, including double and single-deck options, will operate on the River Hooghly, replacing older diesel ferries.

Following the capsizing of cargo vessel MSC ELSA III near Kochi, the Indian Coast Guard has deployed three capital ships, ICG Samarth, ICG Saksham, and ICG Vikram, to the site. These ships are part of a coordinated effort to prevent marine pollution and aid in the salvage of hazardous materials, including 13 IMDG containers.
