Ahead of festive season, Nepal to import 20,000 metric tonnes of sugar from India

The Nepalese government is planning to import 20,000 metric tonnes of sugar from India to meet the domestic demand during the upcoming festivals. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies had requested customs waiver for importing 60,000 metric tonnes of sugar, but the Finance Ministry has only granted permission for 20,000 metric tonnes for now. The Finance Ministry has also provided a 50% discount on customs duty, reducing it from 30% to 15%.
